In the grinding process of granite, several kinds of grinding coolants with different types of surfactant were used. The effects of coolant concentration, surfactant solution, were analyzed based on grind rates in different grinding conditions. By measuring the surface tension of the solutions, the surface potential of the granite powders after being disposed by the different solutions, the physical and chemical actions of surfactants in granite grinding process were analyzed. The results show that the grinding rates when using grinding coolant with surfactants increase greatly in comparing to that using water as coolant, the effects of coolant with cationic surfactant are better than those of the coolant with anionic and non-ionic surfactants. The smaller diamond grits of the grinding plate, the better are the effects of surfactants.
