Sweden is world-wide famous for its emphasis and investment on education. However, in recent years the quality of basic education shows a downward trend. In order to improve the quality of basic education and enhance the international competitiveness, the national ICT strategy needs to be put on the agenda, ICT education is then ushered in opportunities. Swedish new curriculum reform attempts to integrate ICT into other courses and uses ICT to optimize teaching and learning, improve the quality of education, enhance innovation as well as students＇ international competitiveness. This paper introduces Swedish basic education in ICT from four sides which are policy planning, information infrastructure, ICT capacity-building of teachers and students, ICT used in schools teaching. Swedish basic education in ICT is of significant reference, giving enlightenment to the development of information-based education in China.
